Volunteer Benefits

Forest Society volunteers take pride in helping protect vital lands in New Hampshire, and they usually have fun while doing it!

Other benefits to volunteering include training and skills development, personal growth, meeting new people with similar interests, 20 percent discount in our gift shop, a mid-winter potluck, free field trips, Forest Notes magazine, a quarterly volunteer newsletter, an invitation to our annual volunteer appreciation day, complimentary membership after one year of substantial service, and a fun, friendly work environment.

But don't take our word for it. Read "Volunteer Voices" and discover what some of our volunteers have gained through their experiences.

Volunteer Voices

"I originally signed up for volunteer training (at the Forest Society's Rocks Estate) to fulfill some college credits. I'm not sure I ever got the credits, but the Forest Society got me! It's been a rewarding experience, and I've been quite thankful for it." - Velma Ide, 1997 Volunteer of the Year

"We have been members of the Forest Society for many years. Now that we are retired, we are proud and happy to be one of the Society's regular volunteers. We've met a great staff and friendly volunteers, and the work is always fun!" - "Scottie" and Erville Smith, Concord

"The Forest Society has many volunteer opportunities that allow us to work according to our own schedule. The flexibility to volunteer whenever we want has made all the difference. It's rare when we find a volunteer position we enjoy doing together. We can choose when we want to work, and on what kind of project. It's really lots of fun. We have learned so much." - Carol and Mike Andrews, Washington

"Since I love exploring the forests and working with children, I decided to volunteer as a nature tour guide. I have led many tours for elementary-grade children and each one is special. Children love to learn, and I feel good knowing I have made a contribution. I, too, have expanded my knowledge working with the Forest Society, and it's nice to pass it down to the next generation. The Forest Society has been very supportive of its volunteers, making our job even more enjoyable." - Heidi Hutchinson, Canterbury
